Looking for sustainable luxury packaging that avoids plastics? Today is possible

In January 2020, IBM—the American multinational technology company—published a study on consumer trends (you can find the report here) in which they show that shopping behaviour has become more conscious, especially after the pandemic emergency.

Sustainability is crucial for consumers: more than 70% affirm they would even pay a premium of 35% for products made respecting the environment and the circular economy model.

Moreover, 57% of them would change their purchasing habits to help reduce negative environmental impact.

This data demonstrates that companies today can’t ignore the sustainability trend to be competitive in the market. Ignoring it is a risk for their reputation and the whole business.

Including sustainable packaging in your catalogue is therefore the right decision to increase competitiveness.

Here are two new wooden components that will make the difference!

Legnapin: the first and most sustainable mono material friction cap for perfumes

Caps used in perfumery usually need an internal plastic capsule to ensure perfect closing. Now, this plastic part and the associated glue for it can be definitively eliminated, resulting in a completely eco-friendly object.

This is Legnapin, a revolution in perfume packaging design! Discover it in the video below:

It is a wooden cap in which the plastic capsule is replaced by one or three food-contact cork cylinders that create a strong friction with the collar of the pump (spray or dispenser) thus guaranteeing perfect closing without using any:

  • plastics
  • resins
  • glues

This solution is particularly cost-effective, as it is universal. In fact, you don’t need new moulds for caps with different diameters. When using internal plastic or resin-based capsules, you need a new mould if the diameter of the cap changes. On the contrary, cork spurs can be inserted into any type of wooden cap without making any modification.

Sealing discs made of cork for threaded wooden caps

Sealing discs are usually made of plastic. Now you have the possibility of offering our threaded wooden caps Legnavis together with completely ecological sealing discs made of cork that are customizable according to your client’s requirements with:

  • laser marking to brand the product
  • food-contact and nontoxic finishes

This innovative solution (Legnavis + cork sealing disc) lets you offer 100% sustainable packaging for cosmetics, ensuring maximum functionality and performance. The disc made of cork, in fact, exploits the natural compressibility of the raw material to seal the lid and avoid product leakage, without plastic, glue, and resin.

Why should cork be used for sustainable luxury packaging components?

Cork is an extremely versatile and natural material that comes from the outer bark of a mature cork oak. It is suitable for direct contact with wood, being hygienic and hypoallergenic, protecting consumers from possible risks.

Moreover, the extraction process of this raw material doesn’t damage the tree and respects the environment. The harvest from a mature plant is made manually once every ten years.

Using cork to create components for wooden packaging lets you offer items that are:

  • mono material and 100% recyclable, as cork is comparable to wood and doesn’t need to be separated when thrown away
  • completely sustainable, as wood is FSC certified, coming from responsibly managed forests
  • completely plastic free, responding to the needs of consumers who want to buy more sustainable items
  • unique and innovative, something that didn’t exist before and can let you gain a competitive edge in the market.

Including distinctive components in your catalogue is essential to stay a step ahead of your competitors.
