Cork is made from the bark of the cork oak, which is most common in Mediterranean areas. Contrary to what many people think, its extraction process does not cause any problems for the plant. In fact, the bark grows back in a completely natural way before being extracted again after about nine to ten years. It is, therefore, an extraordinarily green material that carries many advantages and benefits. It is used, for example, in the insulation of buildings thanks to its thermal-acoustic insulation properties. But that’s not all. Cork is 100% renewable and recyclable, breathable, antistatic, extremely light, elastic, hypoallergenic, waterproof, fireproof, and mildewproof. These are all characteristics that make it particularly versatile and suitable for different contexts and uses.
